“The students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and it has inspired some to experiment more in their playing. I wouldn’t change a thing with your performance. It was terrific!” - Anita (Music Teacher)
Are you and your students stuck in a rut? Bored by the weekly grind of classes and sporadic practice? Statistics show that over 50% of Australian students abandon musical activities by the age of seventeen and point to an overall decline in the number of young people who sing or play an instrument.
With a background in classical music and instrumental teaching, I know how important it is and how difficult it can be to ignite a passion for music in young people. The dedication, perseverance and patience required to master an instrument are essential life skills that aren’t always well nurtured in today’s generation. Imagine seeing your young musicians fired up, excited to practice and inspired to think outside the box. By showing them how “old” or “boring” instruments can be used to play their favourite music, you can open their eyes to new possibilities. Sometimes, all it takes is a little inspiration break free from the stagnancy of “same old, same old” and bring something new and exciting to your students, school and community.

Dear Music Teacher...
I know it sounds cliché, but honestly, you are a superhero! Some of the most influential people in my life have been music teachers; they quite literally changed the trajectory of my future and the hours of time they invested have made me the artist and the person I am today.
You take on a huge responsibility as a music teacher – your time, energy and creativity are constantly being pulled in different directions. You often do your best work behind closed doors and rarely receive the credit you are rightfully due. You are not just a teacher: you have to be a problem-solver and a detective, a cheerleader, an accountability partner, a mentor and a confidant. You wear countless different “hats”, do a million little jobs to prepare for lessons and are expected to be little short of a miracle-worker. Seriously, I have friends who teach instruments they don’t even know how to play themselves – and they are doing a phenomenal job!
Basically, I’m offering you the chance to step back for a moment, take a break and let someone else do the heavy lifting. I want you to have as much fun as as your students do! When was the last time you got to explore new ideas, experiment with sound and create something fresh without the pressure of teaching or meeting expectations? This is your chance to reconnect with the music and rediscover whatever it was that made you fall in love with it all in the first place. What better way inspire your protégés than to be inspired yourself?
